Essential Financial Modelling – 3 Days

The Essential Financial Modelling course is modular and based on a single case study that runs through all three days. This provides the opportunity to build a sophisticated financial model by the end of the course.

"This is the best course I have ever attended. It should be made compulsory for all of corporate finance."
Corporate Financier, London

"I probably learnt more in these three days than in total since arriving at the bank."
Equity Researcher, London

Each course module starts with a lecture followed by a hands-on session where you apply the knowledge gained from the lecture to the case study. At the end of each module the key learning points are reviewed before moving on to adding the next level of detail to the model.

Course contents:

  • Developing a model: Plan, document, build, finalise
  • Income statements and balance sheets
  • Cash and interest on cash
  • Fixed assets and goodwill
  • Tax, capital allowances, tax losses and deferred tax
  • Ordinary and preference shares
  • Share redemption reserves
  • Inflation and sensitivity analysis
  • DCF valuation
  • Graphics and data tables
  • Quality control - how to check that models contain no errors
  • Excel hints, tips and tricks

What will you be able to do that you can't do now?

By the end of the course you will have built a model with an integrated set of financial statements, a ten year forecasting horizon and a discounted cash flow valuation of the case study company.

While doing this you will have learned about the importance of using a suitable framework right from the start of any modelling task.

The benefits to you and your organisation are:

  • Ability to build financial models which give results quickly, accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to retain control over spreadsheets during development
  • Easy transfer of models from developers to other business users
  • Simplified production of high quality reports and graphics
