Day 1

Lecture

Model reviews – The four stages of a full model review:  Planning, Initial Review, Discussion of Findings and Re-review.
Initial review – the six steps of an initial review.  How to use Excel to identify row differences thereby  locating potential errors.  How to investigate these potential errors and grade them according to the seriousness of their potential impact on the model’s results.
(includes a demonstration worked by the lecturer)

Exercise

Exercise 1 – Finding the row differences present in a reasonably well built model you are given, determining whether these differences are actual errors in the model and grading them according to their severity

Coffee

Lecture

The next step of the initial review – The detailed logic check.  How to carry out this part of the review and what sorts of error need to be investigated
(includes a demonstration worked by the lecturer)

Exercise

Exercise 2 – Performing a detailed logic check on the model you used for the first exercise.  Locating, recording and grading each of the errors in the model.

Lecture

How to review any sensitivity analysis facilities found in a model.
(includes a demonstration worked by the lecturer)

Lunch

Lecture

Sensitivity analysis – how easy it is to add sensitivity analysis to a well structured model after the basic model has been written
(includes a demonstration worked by the lecturer)

Exercise

Exercise 3  –  Adding sensitivity analysis to a financial forecasting model you are given

Coffee / Tea

Lecture

Analytical Review – The ratios you need to work out to check that the forecasts being made and reviewed are reasonable

Lecture

Spreadsheet Professional – An Excel “Add-In” that assists with model reviews
(includes a demonstration worked by the lecturer)
